I found iOS 6 does not have Japanese fonts for use in PDF files (and probably other file types) that don't have them embedded. This probably affects Chinese characters as well. Is this something that can be turned on or does it need an update? Do you know? Thanks!

MrsSpooky -- No, it does not affect other file types or Chinese as far as I know. I think Apple will have to fix it. How soon that will happen is impossible to say, I would not recommend waiting for it if you have any other option.

I know this is well after the fact, but it was discovered Adobe reader can display them just fine. It still affects iBooks and pretty much all other PDF viewers. This is just in case someone else just finds this problem and comes here looking for more information.
